Craggy Range Gimblet Gravels Chardonnay
Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand | 100% Chardonnay
A refined and elegant Chardonnay from the heart of Hawke’s Bay’s Gimblett Gravels Winegrowing District, where stony, loamy soils and diverse Chardonnay clones contribute layers of character and complexity. Crafted with classic Burgundian techniques, this wine focuses on purity, balance and freshness.
Vineyard & Winemaking
The grapes are 100% hand-harvested and whole-bunch pressed, with the juice fermented primarily using indigenous yeast in oak. The wine undergoes full malolactic fermentation before spending 10 months in oak, followed by three months on full lees in stainless steel. Only 24% of the oak was new, allowing the fruit and terroir to remain at the forefront.
Tasting Notes
Pale lime to straw in colour, with lifted aromas of white florals, raw cashew and lemon rind. The palate is powerful yet finely balanced, with ripe stone fruit at its core and a vibrant line of natural acidity. Subtle, well-integrated oak adds texture and depth without overpowering the fruit.
